据BBC新闻网13日报导，俄军虽然加紧围攻马立波，但当地仍有数千名乌克兰战士，而亚速钢铁厂就是他们重要的作战基地之一。不过，专家说，里面究竟有多少人，还缺乏可靠的资讯。尽管盛传俄军动用化武攻击，但目前尚无法证实。

此外，情报专家克朗普（Justin Crump）也说，固若金汤的亚速钢铁厂是马立波最后的抵抗阵地之一。他指出，目前俄军致力轰炸，就是在采取凌迟式的消耗战术。他说，俄军靠这种重炮轰炸的方式，不断摧毁反抗军可能藏身的建筑，接着再采取攻势，以减少自家部队伤亡。
